Repertoire & Songs

The programme of the 6th Japan tour is still taking shape. Here we gather what the choir sings, grouped by genre. The final titles and the programmes of the individual concerts will be added as soon as they are confirmed.

  • Japanese folk and art songs 日本の歌

From the handed-down folk song to the through-composed art song: Japanese pieces are at the heart of the choir. They tie the tour to the host country and are often the songs that touch the audience most directly.

  • German folk and art songs ドイツの歌

From the choir's home: German folk songs and art songs from a rich song tradition. They bring a piece of Karlsruhe and German choral music to Japan.

  • Koto & Wadaiko 琴・和太鼓

Some pieces are accompanied by traditional Japanese instruments – the plucked koto and the wadaiko drum. They give the singing a distinctive, unmistakably Japanese colour.

  • Requiem by Maurice Duruflé レクイエム

As the great sacred work, Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, op. 9, is on the programme – a late, Gregorian-rooted masterpiece of French choral music.

  • The programme follows プログラム

Planned are around twenty Japanese and German songs as well as Duruflé's Requiem. The exact list of titles and the programmes of the six concerts are not yet final – we will add them here once the choir's direction has confirmed them.

The singers rehearse from the choir's official scores. This page gives an overview and is not a substitute for sheet music.

"Our choir is called 'Der Flügel' (the wing) because, as if carried by wings, we have crossed many borders – including the border between Japan and Germany." – Makitaro Arima
