The free days of the tour leave time to explore. Here are ideas for everyone: relaxed group fun (Round1, karaoke, arcades), the loveliest corners of each city and a few day trips – sorted by the three tour cities Kanazawa, Kyoto and Tokyo.
Tip: plan outdoor trips flexibly and take a look at the weather page first. In case of rain there are good indoor alternatives everywhere.
Kanazawa 金沢
🎳 Group fun
-
Round1 Stadium
Bowling, karaoke, spo-cha with batting cages and arcade – a whole evening under one roof. At the weekend a free shuttle runs from Kanazawa Station West; on weekdays it is about 20 minutes by bus.
-
Karaoke by the station
Manekineko and Jankara are both about four minutes from the station, open 24 hours and have large rooms for 20 people or more – ideal for a relaxed arrival evening.
-
Conveyor-belt sushi by the station
Kanazawa's trump card: local conveyor-belt sushi, often better than any chain, all inside or right by the station. Spots like Noto Meguri, Kirari or Morimori are popular with locals.
-
Cheap eats
Saizeriya at the West exit (two to three minutes) is the budget family-restaurant option with a large menu – a good warm-up before karaoke.
-
Arcade
Game Paradise is about five minutes from the station for a quick stop; Taito Station in the Katamachi district has rhythm games and purikura (photo booths).
⛩️ Sights

-
Omicho Market
"Kanazawa's kitchen", 300 years old – free to enter. Liveliest in the morning, with stalls around fresh fish and seafood.
-
Higashi Chaya
The city's most beautiful geisha district: strolling the lanes is free, and individual tea houses and a gold-leaf workshop are open for a small fee.
-
Myoryuji "Ninja Temple"
A temple full of secret doors and trapdoors. Phone reservation is mandatory and often needed weeks ahead – best to arrange early.
Kyoto 京都
🎳 Group fun
-
Round1 Kawaramachi
Bowling, arcade and karaoke, three minutes from Hankyu Kawaramachi and open until early morning. For full spo-cha with batting there is also Round1 Stadium in Fushimi.
-
Karaoke
Big Echo Shichijo is five minutes from Kyoto Station. Alternatively JOYSOUND by the Kamo river has a larger selection of Western songs.
-
Conveyor-belt sushi
Sushiro Kawaramachi is right next to Round1, with tablet ordering. Kura Sushi has a prize draw per plate – good competitive vibe for the group.
-

Saizeriya has several branches around Kawaramachi and Shijo – pasta and pizza at low prices, with a drink flat rate.
-
Arcade & purikura
GiGO Kawaramachi next to Takashimaya: crane games, rhythm games and purikura – the obligatory group photo.

The bamboo grove (quietest in the early morning), the Iwatayama Monkey Park with its panoramic view and the Tenryu-ji temple combine well into a half day.

Around 45 minutes by train. 1,200 free-roaming deer and the great Todai-ji temple; a half day is enough, and feeding the deer is group fun.
-
Kyoto in the evening
Kiyomizu-dera with evening illumination, Fushimi Inari with its thousand torii (almost empty after 8 pm), plus Nishiki Market and the Pontocho lane.

A former geisha district with a French touch and cobbled lanes, loveliest in the evening – reachable directly from Nihonbashi with no transfer.

Tokyo's coffee district – quiet, untouristy and good for a relaxed morning among roasteries and a small garden.
